Finding unique and creative ways to help kids learn is always challenging for any parent. It can also be a bit scary for parents who are still struggling with new Common Core methods of instruction, particularly in the subject of math.
I understand that education and how teachers teach is an evolving process, even more so when you consider how much technology is now being integrated into the curriculum—whether it’s things like iPads in the classroom or computer programs to help students.
Fortunately, we came across one program this past year to help our own little student. Shortly after starting second grade, Willow hit a small roadblock in math. She was struggling with comprehension. Now, I know this girl is a smart cookie, but she wasn’t hitting all the necessary marks.
We tried different techniques, but it wasn’t clicking. That’s right about the time Elephant Learning reached out to me, a fun online learning academy, and we thought, okay, let’s give this a shot.
Elephant Learning had a huge guarantee posted on their site that said, your child will learn at least one year of math in three months when they use the system 30 minutes per week.
We signed up for the program, and off Willow went into a new and fun world of math. At first, I’ll admit, it took her a few days to get used to it, because they teach math through language which was a new concept. But after a while of doing it, she caught on, and so far we have seen steady growth in her skills!
That’s one of the great things I like about this program, is the ability to see her progress in a dashboard-like setting. They also have easy-to-understand charts documenting her growth, playtime analysis and specific areas that need attention. For Willow the program is big hit. Most importantly, she is having fun, and that’s exactly how learning should be for every child.
I encourage you all to give it a try…
